The University of Houston is moving toward its goal of raising $1 billion to improve its programs and continue serving as a hub of learning and research in Texas. Through this historic campaign, the university aims to instill in its students the knowledge needed to promote the future growth of industry in Houston.
The funds raised will create opportunities through scholarships and fellowships aimed at attracting academically talented students from diverse backgrounds. The university also plans to leverage donations to improve its athletics programs and maintain state-of-the-art academic buildings, such as the Multidisciplinary Research and Engineering Building. Donations may also lead to the creation of endowed chairs, allowing the university to attract and retain faculty and continue its legacy as a premier research institution.

Steven Orr has also leveraged his experience as a broker to teach others about investment strategies at the University of Houston-Victoria (UHV), which shows its dedication to community service through a Day of Service as part of Volunteer Week.
In April 2016, UHV began its Volunteer Week with a Day of Service on Saturday. Through the event, 54 students volunteered at the Food Bank of the Golden Crescent, Adopt-A-Pet of Victoria, and Golden Crescent Habitat for Humanity.
Students who volunteered at the food bank organized the warehouse and prepared donations, while those who volunteered at Adopt-A-Pet cleaned the animals’ living areas and spent quality time with the animals. Finally, students who worked with Habitat for Humanity painted a house and replaced rotten wood. Through Volunteer Week, UHV also gave students the opportunity to prepare and service lunch at Christ’s Kitchen and spend time creating art with residents of Retama Manor South, an assisted living and nursing community in Victoria.
