Created by Bum and Debbie Phillips in 2010, the Bum Phillips Charities is a non-profit organization that supports Christian ministries. Although Bum Phillips passed away in 2013 at the age of 90, the charity continues with the help of his wife Debbie. Before he passed, the couple donated acreage from their Goliad, Texas, ranch to establish the Bum Phillips Retreat Center. This center hosts year-round activities and events, including pastoral gatherings and widow retreats.
One of these events is Bum’s Bunch Supper, which took place on January 28, 2017, at the Juniper House at the retreat center. Attendees joined Debbie Phillips and the family for supper, which included a wide range of food. Attendees enjoyed brisket, beans, homemade tortillas, a salad bar, and banana pudding, which was Bum’s favorite dessert. In order to attend the gathering, attendees were asked to make a $50 contribution to the charity.
